  • Yucky foo!

Not everything in life is going to be a home run. Take peas with avocado for example. It’s not delicious. We’ll – don’t take it from me, Skylar’s face shows all:

    Can you say “Bleyah!”

  • Eating is funny

The majority of our time is spent trying to get Skylar to [fill in the blank.] The usual suspects are laugh, crawl, walk, or eat. Bonus points if you get her to do two at once!

  • Yum I Love Green Peas

This is not actually her first time eating, but it’s one of the first times.  She is wearing a stylish (not) plastic bib which she actually wears (you put her arms through it) to ensure maximum protection against baby food drool.  On my usefulness/stylishness index (1-5) it rates about a 3.  Who has time to put the baby into this when she is hungry?  And it’s hard to wipe down and completely get that mildewy smell out.  I’d rather just be able to throw it in the wash so I’ll stick with the good ol’ fashioned cloth bibs.

She was a riot – laughing, giggling, and hating – all at the same time.  On the menu – green peas.  Yummm.  Her little funny toy of choice?  A small blue elephant, with a trunk that she thinks is hilarious and funny enough, now I think is hilarious.

  • Skylar and Daddy

Daddy is having a hard time sleeping lately and is taking little cat naps during the weekend when he can.  Here is an example of a Skylar and Daddy cat nap!  Somebody is wide awake…..

  • Skylar’s Balloon

In case her chosen career of bio-geneticist doesn’t pan out, I’m training Skyar for a career as a head butting wrestler. We start off small with a bonk to Susan’s Valentines Day balloon. Baby steps.

I’m not sure which was funnier, hitting my head, or hitting hers. Yes, schadenfreude seems to be a very human experience regardless of age.

  • Yum Yum time

Below is a video of Skylar eating some yum yum.  I have a tendency to name things whimsically – food is yum yum, balloons are bonk bonks, and anything paper is tentatively known as ‘destroy it!’.  Sometimes I wonder if it’s going to affect her vocabulary, but the entertainment value is too high for me to change 🙂

  • Reaching, Grabbing, Pulling and Expressing Her Preferences

A few weeks ago, Skylar would pull at my hair which I thought was sooo cute.  Now she can “rake” things towards her.  She doesn’t quite have independent use of her fingers. but she is able to take her whole hand and grab onto something with the palm and bring it to her mouth.  Everything goes to the mouth.

  • Alert and Looking Right At You

Since the introduction of solids, she is more alert and aware of what’s going on.  I’m not sure if it’s related, but she started gaining a sharper awareness right around the time we started with foods.  It’s a double edged sword.  She’s responsive, giggles, and smiles at you when you do something funny, but on the other hand, she is more sensitive to noise.

  • Skylar’s Hair and Head

Skylar is an expert now at holding her head up and she responds much more readily to people in the room, noises, and of course, Taco.  She smiles at Taco, it’s the cutest thing ever.

Her hair is still a wierd mohawk-ish patch of long grassy hair on top and short boy-ish hair on the sides.  I bought her some teeny little hair clips, but there’s just no good way of taming the little stray hairs and she is constantly mistaken for a boy….

  • 6 month checkup

We just went in for Skylar’s 6 mo checkup last week.  She had her standard round of vaccines, and I declined the flu shot.  Why?  I’ve received too much conflicting information about young babies and the benefits of the flu shot.  And I think it’s better for her to develop the antibodies.  Anyway, we declined.

We chatted with the Dr about various baby topics, including feedings, breastfeeding, etc.  The usual.

    Here are her stats:

    Height:  26.25 in (50%)

    Weight:  17 lb, 6oz (70%)

    Head Circumference:  42.5 in (25-50%)

She didn’t cry with the shots – yeah!  But she did cry when I left the room to go throw something away….sigh 🙂
