  • Napali Coast

The Napali Coast has no roads, and is accessible only by boat or hiking, and it begins and ends with a beach.  We hiked a portion of it, but didn’t have time to get far.

We picked up some fun, young hitchhikers on the way out who told us that after hiking in 3 days, they found a commune of hippies who had been living in the Napali Coast since the 80’s, completely living off the land….the funniest part was that they’ve built up these pimped out treehouses that they live in, which is what they apparently spend all their time doing.

  • Taco Halloween contest

We took Taco to Pet Smart for a Halloween contest.  There were lots of dogs people tortured and forced to dress up.  Ours was most definitely the cutest.  Unfortunately we did not win – some 5 year old with a cat dressed as a cowboy got the grand prize.  I smell a conspiracy!!

  • Taco meets Colonial Beach

We took a getaway this fall to Colonial Beach and stayed at a dog friendly B&B. Everyone hopped into the car and off we went one Friday evening.

After arriving at 10:00pm we had a glass of wine and settled in for the night, except Taco wasn’t so settled. After about 2 hours of pacing and barking, we put her in bed with us and shoved her head under the covers – where we were all finally able to get some sleep.

The next day we went for a bike ride. Taco sits in my bookbag and has become a pro at surfing my back. She had her first visit with sand and waves and thoroughly loved it – hopping around like a frog-dog and frollicking in the sand.

I was on the phone with NeNe and Pop Pop when I heard Susan yelling “look look!” and I turned around to see Taco splashing about neck deep in the 4 inch waves. Crazy dog!

No pics from the beach, but enjoy some shots we made from our room.

  • Taco el doggie

We got Taco when she was 8 weeks old.  We adopted her as a rescue and she was in bad shape when we got her.  After treatments by the vet and lots of love, Taco has come full circle and is now a happy and way too energetic doggie.  Check out her pics below:

  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s

We had three housewarming parties before we got housewarmed out – one for friends, one for the Harris side of my family and one for the Baker side of my family.

For the Harris side we did a Spanish theme with several different authentic Spanish foods: almond crusted flan, churros, 7 layer dip, and taco salads featuring fresh veggies from Dads garden.

On the Baker side we decided to go with a dress up theme: Breafast at Tiffany’s.  For some reason I got the idea stuck in my head when we decided it would be a brunch.  Thanks for everyone playing along – it was fun, and we hope to have more get togethers in the future!

  • Taco goes for a ride

After we moved to our house in Reston, we took Taco for a bike ride down the W&OD trail which is a 2 minute walk from our front door.

  • Chicago trip #2

We went back to Chicago for a second trip with the ABA.  While there we checked out some new sites including the Sears Tower, now known as the “Watchyou talking bout Willis” tower.  They recently build this clear platform that you can walk out on the 108th story.  Standing on it and looking down is an eerie feeling.

The coolest thing about the trip was seeing the owner of Dubs Magazine going through the security line behind us.  I told Susan and she cornered them and got the awesome picture below!

  • June SkyDiving

Susan bought me a tandem sky diving jump for my birthday Feb. 2009. By June it had finally warmed up to the point where we could schedule a jump.

The question of the day was, “What is it like?”. Hard to describe… Lots of anxiety going up in the plane, then a feeling of relief once actually out of the plane. Free falling doesn’t feel like falling – it feels like being inside of the world’s most powerful fan!

  • Florida Keys

Susan and I wanted a spur of the moment trip to get away from N. Va. for a bit so we decided to visit my Uncle Fred and Aunt Pattie Bill in the Florida keys.

We spent a couple days in Ft. Lauderdale, then stopped by South Beach miami for a quick afternoon stop and finally made our way to the keys.  Fred and PB live in Marathon, about the middle of the keys.  We went snorkeling on Fred’s boat and ate some great seafood.

Key West is a really artsy / poor town and we had fun exploring. It’s also the southern most point of the U.S.
