  • Skylar- 1st day of Kindergarten

Skylar had her first day of Kindergarten. It was kind of like going to college for mommy. I’m just glad the waterworks didn’t start flying. (Skylar handled it much better than Susan).

She’s so independent, when Susan offered to follow her to school and help her to get class, Skylar gave an emphatic “NO!”.

Her teacher sent us a followup email confirming that her first day was great!

  • Ocean City

We went to the beach for a week with Halmonee. Skylar and Parker stomped on waves, jumped them, screamed at them, and did the “butt-butt” on them.

Skylar had a boogie board and we “rode” the waves every day.

Lots of fun in the sun. We also played in the pool and visited the boardwalk where we got ice cream and checked out some cool sand art.

Parker wore his Buzz Lightyear costume and as we walked I heard random “Go Buzz!” hollars from the neighboring hotel rooms.

  • Fishing with friends

Skylar’s best friend Sydney from pre-school moved to Maryland over the summer.  We went to visit them and do some fishing.  The kids caught alot of fish!

  • Curly Hair

Mommy and Skylar curled their hair with rubber bands the way people did it way back in time before they had curling irons 🙂

  • Story time

I recorded the kids telling me their own stories.

  • Skylar’s birthday party

We had a water / dinosaur theme for Skylar’s 5th birthday party.  Her best friend Sydney also had a birthday in July and had recently moved to Annapolis, so they celebrated their birthdays together.

Parker also had fun – although it can be hard to be a 3 year-old at your older sisters birthday party…

  • July 4th 2015

We went to Lexington for July 4th this year.  There is a hot air balloon festival at VMI where they have tethered rides, launches, vendors, and bounce house/ slides setup.  We went to VMI and W&L on Friday – a day before all the festivities and toured the grounds.

Parker was especially concerned with dying and dead people after visiting the tomb of Robert E. Lee – not sure what set him off, but I did have to reassure him for the next 48 hours that he would not ‘die’.

That afternoon we went to the Moorey river for a swim.  Parker and Skylar had never been in a river before and they were apprehensive at first, but then giggled and laughed, running from the shore to me in knee deep water.  Taco even went for a swim after possibly mis-gauging the water, swimming a couple feet toward us, and then turning around for shore.  She, like the kids, preferred to run in, turn around and run back.

Saturday started off a bit gloomy and then warmed up.  That evening we went to the home farm, where Horace grew up, and took part in Dale and Sonia’s yearly July 4th shindig.  I’d guess there were 150 people there.  We went on a couple hay rides, ate some catered BBQ, drank beer, and waited for the sun to set.

They put on a fireworks display that rivaled any town production.  Susan adorned Skylar and Parker in roughly 200 glow in the dark snap rings.  They looked like little radioactive rave toddlers running about – but we didn’t lose them!

Thanks Mom, Horace, Dale and Sonia for a great 4th!
