  • Boston April 2011

We totally dropped the ball and took no photos when we were in Boston for the ABA conference.  However, here is the ONE photo we took at the airport.  Wheeeee!

  • Wakey wakey

Skylar talks…a lot. Unfortunately there is something about video cameras that causes her to immediately cease all verbal communications. I think she is plotting something against me.

Shhhh – he’s in the room again and he’s recording evidence, don’t say ANYTHING!

Anyways, this was another attempt to capture some of the verbosity going on a wake up time.

  • Skylar warming up for Boston Marathon

Susan and I are in Boston at an ABA conference and it just so happens to be the same weekend as the Boston Marathon.

Here you can see Skylar warming up.  Of course, we’ll have to master moving forward before she wins the BM, but you’ve got to start somewhere.

  • Skylar and Mommy

Pictures from just after Christmas 2011. We went to Baltimore to a children’s museum called “Port Discovery”. It was crazy! They had a count down to New Years at 11:59 – AM instead of PM :). The other shots are back at the hotel room hanging out.

  • Sharon and Josh Wedding

Susan and I traveled to Kiawah Island South Carolina for Josh and Sharons wedding.  It’s this super wealthy area with very Southern touches tucked away from the rest of the world.

During the course of driving from the airport to the island we passed over 20 Churches in a 7 mile stretch – and this is not a city.  We were in the middle of nowhere.  There were more Churches than houses!

I think Josh wanted to have the wedding in S.C. because he had discovered something called FireFly – tea flavored vodka.  Whew, the stuff is dangerous.  Josh (not the groom), his wife Natalie, and myself drank more than our fair share as the pictures clearly illustrate 🙂

  • Denver Colorado trip

This past weekend we visited Denver Colorado for an ABA conference that Susan was attending.  For the first time I stayed in a Ritz Carllton hotel.  The room was large, but not overly impressive and the decorum was nice but again nothing that shocked and awed me.  However, the gym was 3 stories of the hotel, included a rock climbing wall, full court basketball court, whirlpool, and state of the art everything.

We visited Josh and Sharon, lawyer friends from D.C. who recently moved to Denver.  Thursday night we met them for dinner along with some of their other friends who happened to be in town visiting.  It drizzled Thursday, snowed and rained Friday, and was partially overcast on Saturday.  So much for the second sunniest city in America.

Friday I worked while Susan attended meetings and then we went out for Sushi that night.  Saturday we met up with Sharon (Josh was at his law firms weekend retreat in Sante Fe).  We took a clog wheel train up Pike’s Peak.  Unfortunately we couldn’t make it to the peak because snow had drifted onto the track, but we did make to about 12,000 feet above sea level.

The most interesting part of the trip was Saturday night when we visited Colorado’s oldest restaurant, the Buckhorn Exchange.  Live animals, 1,700 of them to be exact, peer at you from the walls.  Susan and Sharon were a little spooked out.  Susan feared the hairs from the antelope above our table might fall into her food 🙂

While waiting to be seated we listened to cowboys sing songs about cats, the West, and heard some yodeling.  At dinner we ate alligator tail, elk, buffalo, and home made ranch dressing.  Yumm, yumm delicious.  Definitely a man’s man’s restaurant and a must visit for any meat lover.

  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s

We had three housewarming parties before we got housewarmed out – one for friends, one for the Harris side of my family and one for the Baker side of my family.

For the Harris side we did a Spanish theme with several different authentic Spanish foods: almond crusted flan, churros, 7 layer dip, and taco salads featuring fresh veggies from Dads garden.

On the Baker side we decided to go with a dress up theme: Breafast at Tiffany’s.  For some reason I got the idea stuck in my head when we decided it would be a brunch.  Thanks for everyone playing along – it was fun, and we hope to have more get togethers in the future!

  • June SkyDiving

Susan bought me a tandem sky diving jump for my birthday Feb. 2009. By June it had finally warmed up to the point where we could schedule a jump.

The question of the day was, “What is it like?”. Hard to describe… Lots of anxiety going up in the plane, then a feeling of relief once actually out of the plane. Free falling doesn’t feel like falling – it feels like being inside of the world’s most powerful fan!

  • Florida Keys

Susan and I wanted a spur of the moment trip to get away from N. Va. for a bit so we decided to visit my Uncle Fred and Aunt Pattie Bill in the Florida keys.

We spent a couple days in Ft. Lauderdale, then stopped by South Beach miami for a quick afternoon stop and finally made our way to the keys.  Fred and PB live in Marathon, about the middle of the keys.  We went snorkeling on Fred’s boat and ate some great seafood.

Key West is a really artsy / poor town and we had fun exploring. It’s also the southern most point of the U.S.
