  • Phone pics from va beach

Phone pics from our Va Beach trip.  We had spent the first night in Richmond and stopped by a fun Park that had trails, hills, flowers / plants, and some animals.

  • Impromptu Va beach trip

Work sent me down to Norfolk on a Monday, so we decided to make a weekend of it and stay at Va. beach for a couple days.  The weather was less than cooperative.  The first day we encountered a sand storm at the end of the boardwalk while playing at what would have been an awesome kids area.

The next day it rained, so we did some swimming at the pool.  Skylar got to try goggles for the first time.  I think she liked them because mommy and daddy laughed so hard when she first put them on 🙂

  • Parker’s Dol

Parkers first birthday went quite smoothly.  Neither of the kids had any issue putting on the traditional Korean garb, which is almost unheard of.  Part of the tradition, as I understand it, is the screaming of the birthday child at having to wear a hanbok.

Parker enjoyed his smash cake, and we probably gave him a full minute to relish in the sweet mess before extracting him from it.

  • New Orleans

The notable things about New Orleans were:

    • Amazing food – wow this is a town for foodies.  Not necessarily the most healthy stuff however (Cafe Du Monde beignets anyone?)
    • There are a lot of drunk people here… all the time… day or night.
    • New Orleans has a subculture that the people take very seriously.  They are proud to be ‘different’ from the rest of the US.
    • We saw no evidence of Hurricane Katrina.

Apparently Parker’s enjoyed playing with trash more than anything else – toddlers!  We were originally going to stay in the French Quarter for 2 nights, but the hotel was incredibly non-baby friendly – guess we should have seen that coming.  The first place we stayed had the best pool, so we ended going back there as Skylar’s fav part of the trip was swimming with Daddy.

  • Little Santa

More xmas pics of the kids. In a lot of ways Parker is like Santa – minus the beard he has the pot belly, he’s jolly, and of course they have matching red suits.

  • First present for 2012

Skylar and Parker opened up there PJ’s from Nana and Poppa D on the 23rd.  We had our Christmas on the 24th and then we went to Culpeper for the 25th.  Three days of Christmas!

Parker got relegated to the jumper while Skylar opened all the gifts (including his).  Sorry little man – next year…

  • Thanksgiving – Michael

Saturday morning we went down to Culpeper to have lunch at Gillette’s.  Laney looks so much like her mom – and has similar facial expressions and intonation!

After G’s we went to my Dad’s and had an early dinner.  Sky got to play on an electric car.  The batteries were a bit shot so daddy ended up pushing it about 1/2 the time.  It’s good exercise after all those turkey calories.

  • Thanksgiving – Susan

Thanksgiving was dominated by the grandkids who I think outnumbered the adults for the fist time. Lots of good food and chaos!

  • Halloween In The ‘Hood

We celebrated Halloween this year at a kids party on our block.  It’s an annual thing and our awesome neighbors do a great job putting it together.  All the kids from the ‘hood come out before going trick or treating and it’s a good time for adults as well.  Here are some pics of Skylar…she wore ladybug wings and matching tutu, which was difficult to see under her jacket.  The striped leg warmers were my favorite.

  • Short excursion to VA beach

Susan and I were lamenting one night how we weren’t going to make it to the beach this summer when the ultimate gift landed in my lap.  My boss had to cancel going to Norfolk with me for a meeting so I would be going alone.  Cha-ching!  Can you say whole family beach trip staying ocean front for 3 days!!  YES…

Skylar and daddy do everything together.  These pics shows us discussing the detailed life of a ‘digger’ whilst Skylar keeps a vigilant eye out for waves, digging out the hole for the tent, and then packing it with our feet.
