  • Parker’s armory

When I moved into the Glencroft house I had scoured Facebook marketplace for bulk nerf guns because every boy needs lots of nerf guns 🙂

He had well over a dozen and we needed some organization. I can’t remember if Parker had found nerf walls or if I had, but I put my own spin on it and built our spare bedroom into an armory, complete with light controller to set the right mood prior to going into battle.

  • Monkey at the warehouse

Somehow I got an infestation of monkeys’ at my warehouse!

  • Bed time

Somehow my bedroom has become the gymnastics, sword fighting, tumble room. And we wonder why it’s hard to go to sleep some nights…

  • Sledding

We got a couple massive snow storms and decided to go sledding at Wolftrap. If you don’t have a sled prior to snow coming you can forget about buying one at the store – the closest sled for sale was over 80 miles away, so we improvised.

The mattress and gymnastics jumper are surprisingly fast on the snow!

  • Christmas 2021

Santa brought us new ski gear ahead of Christmas Day this year because we went skiing at Snowshoe from the 19th to the 24th.

Parker got lots of nerf guns to add to his armory. Skylar got lots of arts and crafts projects to add to the house. Nana and Poppa D came and stayed with us and celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

  • Snowshoe – xmas 2021

We were originally scheduled to go to Blue Knob in PA for our Christmas break ski trip, but it became apparent that they were not going to be open in time. At the last minute I had to change our plans to go to Snowshoe and I couldn’t get a room for all the days, so we skied one day at Timberline, stayed in Elkton overnight, and then headed to Snowshoe.

Parker swam in the pool Monday night after Timberline, and Skylar and I were barely awake.

We had a great time skiing, and the our room at Snowshoe (which somehow I don’t have pictures of) suited us well as they had a giant internet enabled tv in the main room and we brought the bed into that room so we could all sleep together at night.

The slopes were about 65% open and there was enough challenging terrain to be fun. The sunset was beautiful on the ride home and Skylar wanted to snap some pics of it, but the phone camera doesn’t quite do it justice.

  • Climbing

A Thursday after school we were killing some time in Vienna near the caboose and two monkeys decided to see how high they could climb:

  • Christmas decorations – 2021

Parker and Skylar made a window snowflake with glue, paint, and wood sticks and I put up a wreath, garland, and lights. Afterwards we decorated the tree with ornaments. It was a slow December day – nice to get some decorating done!

We listened to the Christmas song “Loot in the Hills” via Parker’s fortnite game.

  • Scouts – 1st battle of Bull Run

Early December we went with the Scouts in Manassas to view the 1st battle of Bull Run. We took a guided tour of the property and then visited the museum and watched a movie. After it was over we hopped on our bikes and toured the fields – riding across the road and going to the top of the hill where we got a good look back at the museum and historical house.

Despite growing up in Virginia and touring most of the these with school or my grandparents, I don’t believe I had ever been to the 1st Battle of Manassas.

  • Rick and Sarah Wedding

Rick and Sarah got married in a Catholic wedding ceremony, which none of us had ever been to before. Regardless, it was fairly par for the course, other than some additional latin phrases.

The reception was held at a very pretty club house on the Potomac. We had fun dancing, sans Parker as no one could get him out of his seat. The food and music was great, albeit a bit loud for my old ears and the kids young ears.

So nice to see lots of family and have a good time!
