Our first Halloween doing it daddy style 🙂 We had Ryan and his dad Paul along with Abby come along with us for trick-or-treating in the Glencroft neighborhood.
The kids got quite the haul of candy! I also put together some fun Hors d’oeuvres.

Every year Reston has the “Trick or Trail” at one of their community centers where they setup activities to win candy and have an educational trail with various stops. It’s like the rock star event for community centers and sells out each year within a couple hours of tickets coming online.
You get a mini lesson on mosquitoes, pollution, wildlife, etc, and candy. What could be better!

Skylar brought her friend Emma with us trick or treating. We enjoyed a pot luck with the neighborhood next door and then ventured out into the night with the ghosts and globins (or Darth Vaders, princesses, and autobots as the case may be).
I think we failed the kids this year in some regard, because it took a lot of coaxing from mom and dad to get them to leave one house and move on to the next. Note to self – kids don’t naturally know how Halloween works. In prior years we have moved as a large group, but the turnout was so large this year (almost 30 kids), that when the bell rang to initiate the procession of trick-or-treating we found ourselves without a group.
Regardless, collecting candy from awaiting households is always fun!
The Reston Walker Nature Center puts on the best Halloween Trail. They have educational stops along the entire trail and the Walker Center is transformed into an eery lab complete with dry ice demonstrations, microscopes that look at goo, and most importantly a Star Wars themed dance room.
We celebrated Halloween this year at a kids party on our block. Â It’s an annual thing and our awesome neighbors do a great job putting it together. Â All the kids from the ‘hood come out before going trick or treating and it’s a good time for adults as well. Â Here are some pics of Skylar…she wore ladybug wings and matching tutu, which was difficult to see under her jacket. Â The striped leg warmers were my favorite.
Skylar was originally supposed to be a fairy, but she refused to wear the requisite tutu (I don’t blame her) so we went with our backup option: Super-Skylar!
