  • Harris beach trip

We went to the Outer Banks with the extended Harris family – 24 people if I recall correctly. Most of the time was spent doing 1 of 3 things: playing in the ocean, chilling in the hot tub, or eating yummy seafood.

We only had one semi-bad weather day and it was 75, a little windy, with water temps of 68-69. Parker was the only kid who stayed in the ocean pretty much all day – like all the other days. I think he’s got some Polar bear in him.

On Thursday we went to Jockey’s ridge for a hang gliding lesson. That was super cool! On the way home from the beach we stopped at a water park. They had all kinds of fun stuff including slides, a dueling obstacle course, flow rider, and a climbing wall.

After last summer we now have a tradition of stopping for waffles for lunch in Richmond on the way home. Last year we went to Capital Waffle and this year we went to the Granby Waffle Shop.

  • Sandbridge Beach

We went to Sandbridge Beach at the end of the summer. I had never been there before and it was akin to Virginia Beach lite. The strip of land is very thin and there is almost exclusively houses, so the beaches are not packed at all.

It felt a bit like going back in time to Nags Head 30 years ago. All the amenities of Va Beach are about 20 minutes away, so you can still get to a water park, movie theater, or go-carts.

The Friday before we had to leave we gave the kids the option to do whatever they wanted and they stayed on Road Blocks from 8:30AM to 8:30PM. Susan and I walked to dinner and offered to get them dessert and even that couldn’t dissuade them from leaving.

BTW – “Old Town Road” is one of Parker’s favorite songs this summer and while stopping in Williamsburg we drove past “Old Town Rd”. Hadobogee and Parker did some fishing and I was amazed to see the size of the fish that came out of the Atlantic right where we were swimming – and no, we didn’t catch that one!

  • Outer Banks 2017

We traveled with the Sanglier’s to the Outer Banks for our 2017 beach trip.  The kids had fun trying out surfing (ok, dad hang 10’d the most since it was a cold-water day), riding bikes along our community, bumper cars, putt-putt golfing, eating ice cream, and playing on the beach.

Jockey’s Ridge was awesome, although it felt smaller and I confirmed that the dunes have fallen from 140 feet to 90 feet over the last 10 years.  Enjoy it while you can – mother nature may reclaim that area!  On the way back we stopped in Lexington for a couple days for the 4th.

  • Ocean City – Phone Shots

  • Ocean City

We went to the beach for a week with Halmonee. Skylar and Parker stomped on waves, jumped them, screamed at them, and did the “butt-butt” on them.

Skylar had a boogie board and we “rode” the waves every day.

Lots of fun in the sun. We also played in the pool and visited the boardwalk where we got ice cream and checked out some cool sand art.

Parker wore his Buzz Lightyear costume and as we walked I heard random “Go Buzz!” hollars from the neighboring hotel rooms.

  • Rehoboth Beach

We had a really nice vacation the week after Labor Day. The masses had gone back to school, and we had a great week without the crowds. It seemed there were mostly older folks and families like us who were there.

We started off things right by walking across the street the day we arrived to a farmers market right outside our house. I thought we would pick up a few choice items for the week, but we bought almost everything we needed including Salmon, tomatoes, organic yogurt, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, coffee…

It took P&S a couple days to warm up to the ocean, but by the end of the week they were both wanting for daddy to take them down to the water.

I took the bikes with us and the bike carrier and we went riding every day. We were about 3 blocks back from the ocean, and it was the perfect distance for a 5 minute bike ride.

Phone pics from our Va Beach trip.  We had spent the first night in Richmond and stopped by a fun Park that had trails, hills, flowers / plants, and some animals.
